Got a product idea on your mind?

Let’s talk it through and find the clarity you need to move forward.

You have a product idea. You think about it constantly, but whats next?

Where do I start?

How would I manufacture it?

What would this even cost?

How do I know if this is a good idea?

Idea to Action Plan

Lets get some clarity before you dive too deep

I’ve had countless new product ideas brought to the table. While clients are always passionate about their idea, they often became overwhelmed with the sheer complexity of bringing a new product to market or focus on the details too early without looking at the bigger picture.

I want to help lift that fog and provide some unbiased insight.

Following a 3-stage process, we can systematically explore your product idea as you feel comfortable.

  • Refine Your Core Concept

  • Pressure-Test Your Assumptions

  • Define the market

  • Discuss any “Showstoppers”

  • Explore the “How”

  • Define Your First Steps

Stage 1

Discussion

An initial project focussed 1-on-1 collaborative session, structured to cover the big questions

  • Pre-session Questionnaire and Designer Review
  • 1 Hour Project focussed session focussing on:
    • Problem/idea
    • Market
    • Design & Manufacturing
  • Summary PDF of session activities and key points

Stage 2

Vision

Create early “blue-sky” imagery. Aimed for gathering preliminary customer feedback, showcase to a board, or potential investor interest.

Convert Stage 1 concept into visual representation of your product idea:
  • Isolated product image*
  • In-context concept image*
*The imagery is purely a representation of the product idea and context. Its design will be further refined once full development commences.

Stage 3

Scoping

Planning the development of your project to give a clear understanding of what is to come.

Create a detailed product development estimate including:
  • Timeline / Roadmap
  • Development stages
  • Associated estimates
  • Prototype / Manufacturing Costs
  • Project considerations
Evan Thomas. An industrial designer based in Auckland, NZ.

Hi, I’m Evan

Making things, is my thing.

With a 13 years of product design experience, I’ve helped countless clients with their product ideas and converting them into reality. My background includes working for some of NZ’s leading design agencies and global brands, working with some truely legendary people, and picking up multiple design awards along the way.

I’ve worked with teams building smart devices, novel and disruptive gadgets, and performance-driven hardware. My expertise is assisting in working out the best direction early and supporting you from early concepts through to production-ready parts.

I have a passion for the outdoors. When away from the desk, I dabble in mountain biking, kitesurfing, or simply working thorugh the endless to-do list on our small farm north of Auckland.

Working with Evan has been a great experience. He has been exceptionally thorough, taking the time and effort to fully understand our vision and requirements. His methodical and systemic approach to the process has also been really helpful for us, as a young company with limited experience in product design and development. He has remained friendly, professional and a pleasure to work with. We feel really confident having Evan leading our product design and would be happy to work with him again on future projects.

Gavin GanDirector - Pet Impact

Evan’s creativity is what truly makes him stand out; he has a unique ability to understand my vision/s and ideas and bring them to life while also suggesting innovative details. His expertise in design to production is invaluable, as he designs with manufacturing in mind. A skilled, reliable, and visionary designer, I won't work with anyone else.

Jane MasonDirector - Jane Mason Studios

Evan quickly developed a new aesthetic design for our wearable tech product also producing high-quality renders that we used to engage early prospects. He then collaborated closely with our in-house team to refine the design for production. Evan quickly developed a good understanding of our business, target customers and constraints offering practical solution options.

FAQ’s

Is my idea kept confidential?

Absolutely. I treat all client information with 100% professional confidentiality. Our pre-session questionnaire will ask if you require an NDA. If you do, I am happy to review one before our call. Your trust is my top priority.

What if I think my idea is bad, or I'm embarrassed to share it?

This is exactly why this service exists. There are no “bad” ideas, only “unvalidated” ones. My job is not to judge, but to provide an expert, objective, and supportive analysis to help you find the right path, whether that’s moving forward, pivoting, or saving you time and money.

What if you tell me my idea isn't viable?

My expertise is from a design and manufacturing point of view, I can provide validation when it comes to balancing market size with manufacturing and design cost. I also recommend talking with a business advisor for their input. While it may be a bitter pill to swallow, getting “don’t do it” feedback is one of the most valuable outcomes this session can provide. Finding out now that an idea has a major flaw before you invest too heavily. If that’s the case, we’ll spend the rest of our time brainstorming potential pivots or a new direction.

What do I actually get? Is it just a 1-hour call?

You get two key things. First, a focused 1-on-1 session. Second, you get a Summary PDF outlining all the key points from our discussion. You’re not just buying an hour of my time; you’re buying clarity and a tangible, written summary of our strategic session.

Do I have to buy the "Vision" or "Scoping" packages afterward?

Absolutely not. The 1-Hour “Idea Validation Session” is a 100% standalone product designed to deliver massive value on its own. The upsell packages are simply optional tools that I make available for clients who want tangible, written assets to help them execute the plan we discussed. There is zero pressure.

What kind of ideas do you specialize in?

I specialize in designing “hard” physical products. Think plastics, metals, electronics etc. I am an “industrial designer”, this means I work on the mechanical portions of a product and bring in specialists where needed. I commonly work with electrical and mechanical engineers to finalise products.

What if I need to reschedule?

No problem. Life happens. You can easily reschedule your session through the booking calendar below. If you have any issues, just send me an email – hello@et-id.com

What if you can't help me?

I review your questionnaire and gauge if your idea is within my area of expertise, I will not waste your time or money. If I feel I am unable to provide valuable insight, I will promptly cancel the booking and refund your full payment.
